Philip Kotler (1931) is een gerenommeerde marketing management professor op het gebied van Internationale Marketing aan de Kellogg School of Management. Hij is vooral bekend van zijn marketing benadering: de vijf productniveaus en de theorie achter decision making unit (DMU).

Biografie Philip Kotler

Hij behaalde zijn Mastergraad (MSc.) aan de universiteit van Chicago en zijn doctoraat (Ph.D.) aan Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Philip Kotler deed postdoctoraal werk op het vakgebied van wiskunde aan de Harvard Universiteit en gedragswetenschap aan de Universiteit van Chicago.

Kotler’s boek Marketing Management (1967) is ‘s werelds meest gebruikte schoolboek voor marketing.

Twee andere bekende boeken zijn Principes van Marketing en Marketing: an introduction. Deze boeken worden wereldwijd ook veelal gebruikt als basisstudieboeken voor verschillende opleidingen.

Naast verschillende publicaties van boeken en artikelen heeft Philip Kotler ook nieuwe concepten ontwikkeld op het gebied van marketing waaronder demarketing, megamarketing, turbomarketing en synchromarketing.

Hij is van mening dat de marketing theorie verder moet gaan dan alleen prijstheorieën en de dynamiek van innovatie, distributie en promotie-systemen op te nemen, te analyseren en deze te verklaren en te voorspellen van te verwachte economische resultaten.

Andere bekende concepten van Philip Kotler zijn Decision Making Unit (DMU) en de vijf product niveaus.

Philip Kotler heeft z’n gehele carrière gewerkt voor vele grote bedrijven op het gebied van marketing strategie, planning en organisatie, en internationale marketing.
