Otto Scharmer (Claus Otto Scharmer) is een ervaren docent op het gebied van organisatie studies aan de Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Tevens is hij oprichter / directeur van het Presencing Instituut en grondlegger van de Theorie U.

Otto Scharmer is vooral bekend als één van de grondleggers van de benadering “Theory U“.

Theory U gaat over persoonlijk leiderschap en een andere manier van denken.

Hij heeft deze benadering samen met medewerkers van het voormalige MIT de afgelopen jaren doorontwikkeld. Wereldwijd wordt deze benadering gebruikt en zijn boek genaamd Theory U (2009), is inmiddels in 15 talen beschikbaar voor geïnteresseerden.

Scharmer behaalde zijn Mastergraad (MSc.) en zijn doctoraat (Ph.D.) in economie en management aan de Universiteit van Witten/ Herdecke in Duitsland.

Hij is actief als bezoekend professor aan de Helsinki School voor Economie. Hij is vol van leiderschap en innovatie. Hij leidt het MIT IDEAS programma en helpt tal van managers en professionals uit het bedrijfsleven, overheid en stichtingen om innovatie te stimuleren en te ontwikkelen binnen hun omgeving.

Scharmer is wereldwijd actief en heeft in Afrika, Azië en Europa verschillende organisatie zoals Daimler, Eileen Fisher, PriceWaterhouse, Fujitsu, Google en Natura geholpen met vraagstukken over leiderschap en innovatie.
