Daniel Pink - Toolshero

Daniel Pink (geboren 23 juli 1964) is een Amerikaanse auteur en spreker die bekend geworden is met zijn motivatietheorie, zijn bijdragen aan de gedragswetenschappen en het beschrijven van de veranderende natuur van werk. Hij heeft verschillende bestsellers geschreven op het gebied van psychologie, economie en menselijk gedrag. Een van zijn bekendste boeken is ‘Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us’, uit 2009.

Daniel Pink is tevens verantwoordelijk voor het produceren van een van de meest bekeken TED Talks allertijden: ‘The Puzzle of Motivation’. Pink is naast schrijver ook spreker en presentator van het televisieprogramma Crowd Control van National Geographic.

De biografie van Daniel Pink

Daniel Pink werd geboren in 1964 in het kleine buitenwijkstadje Bexley, Ohio, in de buurt van de stad Colombus. Hij groeide op in een rustige omgeving en zijn jeugd werd gekenmerkt door teamsporten, openbare bibliotheken en sitcoms. Hij studeerde in 1982 af aan de Besley High School.

Zijn passie voor schrijven en onderzoeken leidde ertoe dat hij redacteur werd bij Fast Company en Wired. Hij werkte ook als zakelijke columnist voor The Sunday Telegraph. Zijn artikelen verschenen in prestigieuze publicaties als The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, The Atlantic en Slate.

Hij deed als Japan Society Media fellow onderzoek naar de wereld van de Japanse stripindustrie tijdens een verblijf in Tokio.

Voordat hij zelfstandig doorzette met zijn carrière, werkte Daniel Pink voor de politiek en de overheid. Hij werkte van 1995 tot 1997 als speechschrijver voor vicepresident Al Gore. Daarvoor betrad hij verschillende andere functies, waaronder Special Assistant van minister van arbeid Robert Reich van 1993 tot 1995.

Pink behaalde zijn bachelor aan Northwestern University, waar hij werd gekozen tot Phi Beta Kappa en de prestigieuze Truman Scholarship ontving. Hij zette zijn academische loopbaan voort en behaalde een Juris Doctor aan Yale Law School, waar hij hoofdredacteur werd van Yale Law & Policy Review.

Vanwege zijn bijdragen en verdiensten heeft hij verschillende eredoctoraten gekregen van gerenommeerde instellingen als Georgetown University, Pratt Institute, University of Indianapolis en Westfield State University.

Tegenwoordig woont Daniel Pink in Washington D.C. met zijn vrouw en twee kinderen.
