Archie B. Carroll is een professor emeritus aan het Terry College of Business van de Universiteit van Georgia. Hier was hij parttime directeur van het Non-profit Management and Community Service Program. Dr. Archie B. Carroll deed tientallen jaren onderzoek naar Maatschappelijk Verantwoord Ondernemen (MVO), schreef meerdere boeken over het onderwerp en is vooral bekend met het model: de CSR piramide van Carroll.

Biografie Archie B. Carroll

Archie B. Carroll werd geboren in Jacksonville in Florida. Hij ging naar school aan de Balboa High School en eindigde zijn middelbare school periode in 1961. Vervolgens haalde hij drie academische graden aan de Florida State University, waarna hij zijn loopbaan begon als docent aan het Athens College. Deze school staat nu bekend als de Athens State University.

In 1972 begon hij op de faculteit van het College of Business Administration aan de University of Georgia. Hier zou hij voor de volgende 40 jaar lesgeven.

Gedurende zijn loopbaan schreef Archie B. Carroll tientallen boeken en publiceerde hij meer dan honderd artikelen. Enkele van zijn meest bekende boeken zijn Corporate Responsibility: The American Experience, Business and Society: Ethics, Sustainability, and Stakeholder Management en Business Ethics: Brief Readings on Vital Topics.

In 1992 ontving Carroll de Sumner Marcus Award for Distinguished Service. Een jaar later ontving hij een vergelijkbare prijs voor zijn onderzoek naar de sociale prestaties van bedrijven. In 1996 werd hij ingewijd als Fellow van de Southern Management Association en van 1998 tot 1999 was hij voorzitter van de Society for Business Ethics.

In 2003 ontving hij de Terry College of Business Distinguished Faculty Service Award. In 2005 werd hij verkozen als Fellow van de Academy of Management. In 2008 ontving hij een PhD Alumni Award van de Florida State University.
